Vipers Win Season Opener on the Road

The Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers and the Sherwood A & S Scrap Metal Metros battled in Sherwood last evening.  The game started as many expected the first game of the year to start, scrappy.  As the game progressed, both teams found their groove and with 5:11 left in the first period, the Vipers broke the 0 - 0 tie on a goal by Reese Wyand.  The first period ended 1-0.  The second period was a much more entertaining as the teams found their groove and the Kensington - sherwood rivalry was renewed.  Sherwood's Nick Reeves and Holden Bradley scored 2 goals 3 miuntes apart mid way through the second period to take the lead 2-1, however, a little over a minute later, Wyand would score his second of the night to tie the game and take the game into the 3rd period tied at 2.  Shaul Mitten scored 8:10 into the 3rd to take a 3-2 lead for the Metros.  1:09 later Max Sentner tied the game again at 3.  Alex Graham scored 24 seconds later to regain the lead at 4-3.  Vipers captain Duncan Picketts teid the game with 7:29 left in the 3rd.  Wyand would complete his hattrick with 3:29, and the Vipers would take the lead for good.  The Vipers' Carson MacKay would add an empty net goal with 33 seconds left in the 3rd period.

Kensington were assessed 30 minutes and Sherwood was assessed 44 minutes in penalties.
